A shop selling natural stones and wellness items in Waterloo
Luma Création is a gift shop based in Waterloo, specialising in natural stones, decorative carved wooden creations (such as the Flower of Life and the Tree of Life), candles and small wellness items. A world where emotion is evoked as much by the materials as by the atmosphere.
The challenge: illuminating materials that do not react in the same way
In a shop like this, the lighting cannot be uniform. An amethyst, a rose quartz and a laser-cut wooden panel do not have the same colour, texture or way of reflecting light.
- Natural stones: their value lies in the consistency of their colours and the depth of the material. Lighting with poor colour rendering makes them look dull and greyish.
- Carved wooden creations: their design is revealed through contrast and cast shadows. Lighting that is too diffuse flattens them out.
- Candles, bottles and small items: displayed on glass shelves, they must remain clearly visible from all heights, without any distracting glare.
- The overall atmosphere: a place designed for well-being calls for soft, welcoming lighting, not the sort used in large retail spaces.
The solution: adjustable LED spotlights on a track

When a shadow becomes part of the scenery
The most striking effect can be seen in the wooden pieces: illuminated by a directional beam of light, the large rosettes cast their pattern onto the wall behind them. The exhibited piece is accompanied by its shadow, and the shelf becomes a small scene in its own right.
That is the whole point of well-balanced accent lighting: it does more than simply showcase the product; it tells its story. When applied to gemstones, the same principle brings out the reflections, inclusions and subtle shades that make you want to hold the object in your hand.
