Professional lighting, between comfort, performance and compliance
In a working environment, lighting is only noticed when it is bad: reflections on screens, dark spots, cold and tiring light. Well designed, it becomes invisible yet decisive. It supports concentration, reduces visual fatigue, enhances reception areas and weighs directly on a building's energy bill. It is also the field where standards precisely frame the expected lighting levels.
Since 1971, Rodalight has been designing lighting for offices, hotels, institutions, warehouses and tertiary spaces across Belgium. Our approach combines occupant comfort, compliance with the EN 12464-1 standard on the lighting of indoor workplaces, and control of operating costs, which is especially significant on large volumes and long hours of use.
What well-designed professional lighting brings
Beyond mere illuminance, a well-run project acts on concrete levers, for the facility manager and the occupant alike.
- Comfort and productivity: a suitable illuminance level and low glare reduce visual fatigue and support concentration over time.
- Regulatory compliance: meeting the lux levels per type of task (EN 12464-1 standard) secures workspaces and inspections.
- Operating savings: on large areas or extended use, a well-sized LED relamping sharply reduces consumption and maintenance.
- Space enhancement: reception halls, meeting rooms and hotel spaces gain in perceived quality with careful lighting.
- Smart control: presence detection, dimming and zone management avoid unnecessary lighting and extend equipment life.
Our technical benchmarks by type of professional space
Each space has its own regulatory and functional requirements. An office calls for a precise illuminance level and low glare, a warehouse favours robustness and uniformity, a hotel lobby an atmosphere. Here are the benchmarks we apply, in line with the EN 12464-1 standard and the control of the UGR index (glare).
Illuminance level (lux)
The EN 12464-1 standard sets recommended illuminance levels by task: around 500 lux for an office workstation, 300 lux for a circulation area or reception, more for precision tasks. Insufficient illuminance tires the eye, excess wastes energy.
Glare (UGR)
The UGR index (Unified Glare Rating) measures the discomfort caused by glare. In an office, a UGR of 19 or below is recommended to preserve comfort in front of a screen. It is a central criterion, often overlooked, that makes all the difference over a working day.
Colour temperature
Neutral light (4000K) suits most workspaces, as it supports alertness. Reception areas, hotels and relaxation zones benefit from a warmer light (3000K) that softens the atmosphere.
| Type of space | Illuminance (lux) | Recommended UGR | Temperature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Office, open space | ~500 lux | ≤ 19 | 4000K |
| Meeting room | ~500 lux | ≤ 19 | 3500K to 4000K |
| Reception, circulation | ~300 lux | ≤ 22 | 3000K to 4000K |
| Hotel, reception area | ~200 to 300 lux | ≤ 22 | 2700K to 3000K |
| Warehouse, logistics | ~150 to 300 lux | ≤ 25 | 4000K |
| Car park | ~75 lux | ≤ 25 | 4000K |
Solutions tailored to your environment
Each professional context calls for a specific answer. We cover in detail the lighting of offices, coworking spaces, meeting rooms, hotels, institutional buildings, warehouses and car parks. Explore all our professional expertise to find yours.
Concrete results
Our projects reflect this demand. At the Hotel Amigo, the relamping of hundreds of sources was integrated into the existing fittings, with energy savings and no aesthetic break. At the Belgian Senate, more than 1000 bulbs were replaced with high-CRI, warm-tone LEDs, with respect for the heritage. At the Parc des Étoiles car park, sealed LED luminaires ensure safety and constant brightness.

How does a professional lighting project work?
Depending on the scope of your project, several formats are possible. For targeted advice or a technical question, Express Advice provides expert feedback within 48 hours. To visualise the result before works, the Visual Study delivers concrete renders. For a full building or a large-surface relamping, the Custom Study covers the photometric study, costing and installation.
