Properly lit points of sale canboost your company’s sales by improving the shopping experience. Light directs the customer’s gaze and, if well thought out, highlights your products. So it’s essential to take lighting into account when designing your shop layout.
Think of the uncomfortable or gloomy shops you’ve been in. You may not have realised it, but the lighting certainly played a part in the feeling you had. So optimising your lighting is essential to achieving your commercial objectives.
Find out how we managed to put the spotlight on an organic shop and how its sales soared thanks to our intervention.
Two distinct parts to highlight
Vidya Ayurveda is located in Brussels, in the Marolles district. The shop has two distinct sections: an organic shop and a restaurant. The managers contacted us because they thought their shop was dark. They felt they were in the dark.
What’s more, the layout of the premises meant that they were not visible from the street. In fact, when you walked past, it was difficult to tell whether the business was open or not. So our aim was to help them put the spotlight on their business in order toincrease their clientele and sales.
An initial lighting diagnostic
To begin with, our experts visited the premises to carry out a diagnostic of the existing lighting. This enabled us to establish that the luminaires were indeed not adapted to the shop’s spaces.
During our site survey, we analysed several areas: the shop window, the entrance, the grocery shop and the restaurant area.

Attracting customers with the right luminaires
When designing a shop window, it’s essential to take aesthetics into account. This is what attracts customers’ attention. What’s more, the shop window embodies the image of the shop and can create an emotion in passers-by, which can be crucial in the decision to enter the shop. So the design and lighting of your shop window need to be thought through in advance.
In the case of our client, the premises did not have a shop window, but an entrance hall in complete darkness. So we came up with a customised solution that focused on this entrance. This gave the shop depth and visibility from the street.
Lamps to enhance your interiors
When customers enter a shop, their first impressions are of the overall atmosphere and ambience. These can contribute to their satisfaction or dissatisfaction by influencing their perceptions. These perceptions have an impact on shoppers’ behaviour by encouraging them to react positively. And, ultimately, lead them to make a purchase.
To do this, we proposed a bespoke implementation for three zones in the shop.

Lighting solutions for our customer
The entrance
Drawing on our expertise of almost 50 years, we advised Vidya Ayurveda on the installation of functional lighting for the airlock and the grocery shop.
Toattract passers-by’s attention to the entrance area, we used professional floodlights projecting very wide beams.
Expert advice on lighting
Installing lots of lamps and light fittings in your shop window may seem an appropriate solution. However, you also need to think about providing good lighting throughout your shop. If you don’t, passers-by will get the impression that the store is closed.
So by working on your lighting as a whole, you’re helping your potential customers to know that you’re open for business.
The grocery shop
In the grocery shop, we had to make sure that the product displays and displays were well lit. To do this, when we designed the new lighting system, we immediately eliminated bulbs suspended from a cable.
Instead, we installed 35w LED 3000 lm track-mounted spotlights in neutral white 4000 kelvin. They can be easily directed towards the areas to be lit. What’s more, this type of lighting gives an accentuated effect of brilliance on the objects displayed on the shelves, which met our customer’s requirements perfectly.
We don’t impose a colour on our customers. We could have adapted another, equally comfortable colour if the customer had preferred. We always try to find the best solution together. If we feel that the customer is making the wrong choice, we also guide them towards what is best for them and always explain why.
The catering area
Last but not least, the restaurant deserved to have its own atmosphere. As a result, the seating area now has warm white decorative hanging lights. The checkout area, meanwhile, is lit by LED panels to create a pleasant, comfortable atmosphere for customers.

Colour Rendering Index (CRI)
Another important factor in quality lighting is the colour rendering index (CRI). This is a measure of a light source’s ability to reproduce the colours of an object correctly and faithfully. Its value is between 1 and 100, the latter corresponding to daylight. In the shop, to ensure quality rendition, the majority of luminaires installed have a CRI of between 89 and 95.
The right choice of luminaires
There’s a vast range of lighting solutions to illuminate your products. But not all of them are suitable for every situation. That’s why it’s important to call on a lighting expert like Rodalight.
A result beyond their expectations
When we finished installing the new LED lighting systems, the managers of Vidya Ayurveda were all aglow! After just a few weeks, they noticed a real impact of their new lighting installations on their sales. Passers-by can now instantly see that the shop is open. We’re delighted to have been able to meet their needs.
Rodalight’s advantages
