An art gallery in Brussels transformed by light
The Art Company gallery in Brussels had a specific need: lighting capable of highlighting a collection of varied works while respecting the sensitivity of the paintings and sculptures. Rodalight was asked to design a technical solution adapted to the artistic requirements and the comfort of visitors, in line with our expertise in art gallery lighting.
Analysis and diagnosis of needs
The first step was to understand the specific constraints of gallery lighting:
- Get natural, balanced light, without colour distortion.
- Provide powerful but non-aggressive lighting for the works and the public.
- Enable flexible orientation of spotlights for different formats and types of exhibition.
- Respect conservation standards for light-sensitive works.
A detailed photometric study was carried out to assess the areas of exposure, the light intensity required and the optimum lighting angles, in line with our projects such as Finstral Studio and the Renmans butchers.
Essential technical parameters
- Colour temperature set at around 3000K for a warm, natural finish.
- Colour rendering index (CRI ≥ 95) for faithful, accurate rendering of colours.
- Adjustable LED lights to adapt the light to the layout of the works.
- Adjustable intensity control to create different moods for different exposures.
Choice of luminaires and layout
Rodalight selected track-mounted LED spotlights that combine technical performance with aesthetic discretion. The luminaires were arranged to cover the entire gallery, while allowing individual orientation for each work, similar to the solutions used in our exhibition lighting projects.

Solutions implemented
- LED tracks with adjustable spotlights for maximum flexibility.
- Projectors with adjustable lenses to focus light on specific parts.
- Integrated dimming systems to modulate intensity according to exposure.
- Compact luminaires so as not to disrupt visitors’ visual experience.
Before/after comparison
| Criteria | Before intervention | After installation Rodalight |
|---|---|---|
| Colour rendering | Fluorescent, tone distortion | CRI ≥ 95, natural colours |
| Orientation | Fixed luminaires with limited flexibility | Adjustable spotlights on rails |
| Intensity | Constant, not adjustable | Possible gradation according to exposure |
| Visual comfort | Aggressive lighting at times | Soft, even light |
Benefits for the gallery
- Lighting that respects the nature of the works and the comfort of visitors.
- Adjustable orientation depending on the type of exhibition and the layout of the works.
- Energy savings thanks to high-performance, long-lasting LEDs.
- Easy maintenance thanks to robust, easy-to-handle luminaires.
Rodalight expertise in the service of art
This project illustrates Rodalight’s ability to combine technology and aesthetics. Each installation is designed to meet the specific requirements of each location, optimising visual comfort, product or artwork enhancement and energy efficiency. You can also consult our other projects in the field of lighting for architects to see how we adapt our solutions to suit different contexts.
Continuous optimisation and adaptability
The solutions proposed allow lighting to be changed quickly to suit new exhibitions, guaranteeing total adaptability for art galleries such as Art Company. Light intensities and angles can be easily adjusted, ensuring that works of art stand out to their best advantage, similar to our work for the Vidya Ayurveda organic shop.
Integration with other Rodalight products
This project can be linked to other Rodalight projects or to lighting projects for commercial areas to compare strategies adapted to different types of location and use.
Conclusion: light and the visual experience
The lighting in the Art Company gallery is now both efficient and flexible, highlighting the works of art and ensuring the comfort of visitors. Rodalight continues to demonstrate that every lighting project can be tailor-made, efficient and aesthetically mastered, while drawing on our other areas of expertise such as exhibition lighting.
